NHS Digital has tasked NHS organisations to gain Cyber Essentials accreditation. This is a government-backed scheme that includes an independent assessment of our security controls and provides assurance that we are operating effectively to prevent cyber-attacks.
Cyber Essentials requires organisations to have a number of information security related technical and procedural controls in place.
The independent assessment found that laptops and PCs were well protected from potential browser-based/email malware attacks and that mobile phones were all correctly updated to the latest operating system and application versions. Furthermore, all devices were securely configured and appropriately protected by anti-malware software.
In 2018, we managed to achieve certification for our Newburn site.
This year we have successfully extended this across more of our offices including Derwent House in Derbyshire, Wira House in Leeds and Alpha Court in York. The plan is to ensure all NECS locations achieve this standard.
Well done to everyone involved.
