Inspiring the next wave of consultants

Friday 16th October 2020

We’re delighted to have joined forces with 180 Degrees Consulting Manchester and the Young MCA, to offer consultancy mentorship from September to December 2020. The mentorship will be led by Young MCA Representative and Project Manager from our Consultancy team, Nick Hough (pictured below).

The scheme will see student consultants work with mentors like Nick to develop their skills, gain insight into the world of consulting and complete an industry-based project. The projects will be one of a variety from the not-for-profit sector, with Young MCA mentors providing value-added advice based on their strengths at key project stages. This can include providing assistance in overall recommendations, tips for client presentation and preparing effective analysis slides.

Each project will feature three key stages for mentors to provide their expertise — project kick off, mid-project review and final project review. Students can maximise their mentor’s advice on issues like developing initial hypothesis, improving client communication, choosing appropriate deliverables and more.

180 Degrees Consulting Manchester, founded at The University of Manchester, will be leading the programme. As the world’s largest university based, student-led, not for profit consultancy, 180 Degrees Consulting work with university students across the globe to nurture and mentor the next wave of consultancy talent, whilst at the same time helping socially conscious organisations overcome the challenges they’re facing. Their Manchester base has close links to the University of Manchester, with the aim to provide an opportunity for students to deliver critical impact and develop core competencies to thrive as social impact leaders.

Also playing a role in the scheme is the Young MCA; the junior arm of the Management Consultancies Association (MCA). They’re a professional network for those starting a career in management consultancy, with the aim to engage and develop young consultants whilst shaping the future of the industry.

This year’s projects include clients like The Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN), Hyperloop, Distinct Horizon, Cracking Good Food and Greater Manchester Youth Network.

“Really delighted to see Nick and team partnering and nurturing future consultancy talent in the North-West and can’t wait to see the results” Chris Sparrow (Regional Lead, NECS Consultancy Team)

Best of luck to Nick and all consultancy students taking part.
