NHS Sustainability Day – 21st March

NHS Sustainability Day is held annually and is about celebrating the importance sustainable development plays within our national health services.

On NHS Sustainability Day we launched our new Sustainability and Corporate Social Responsibility Strategy 2019-2021.  The new strategy details the four key areas of focus we will prioritise as an organisation:

  • Travel and transport
  • Natural resources
  • Supply chain
  • Social value

The strategy is available to view here: Sustainability and Corporate Social Responsibility Strategy

Removal of single use plastics from NECS sites
On NHS Sustainability Day we also launched our first organisation-wide sustainability campaign pledging to remove single use plastics within NECS sites.

There will be some small changes over the coming weeks as we phase out a number of single use plastic items in our kitchens and meeting rooms.

We will also be phasing out plastic water bottles in buildings where there is a good alternative supply of safe fresh drinking water, and replacing plastic and plastic coated cups with new NECS mugs and glasses.
