Our Market Engagement Decision Tool is helping increase the number and quality of procurement bids

Our healthcare procurement team has enhanced its people’s specialist knowledge to better support the development and understanding of customer needs.  As well as pinpointing education and training needs for commissioners, our approach highlighted the need for developing and delivering service specific market engagement and procurement awareness events, aiming to increase the number and quality of bids received.

Unique to NECS, our Market Engagement Decision Tool provides key criteria on where to focus market development supporting commissioners achieve their outcomes. Over the last 12 months our specific market engagement events have reduced failed procurements by 1.43%, bidders who failed at capability and capacity finance has reduced by 21.29% and the average quality scores from a winning bidder has increased by 3.36%. The team also led on a regional NHS England capability and capacity finance review as part of the procurement process ensuring a consistent and robust approach to finance evaluation which is fair, open and transparent and appropriate to the market.  The success of this model has now been adopted nationally throughout NHS England. The procurement team was awarded Highly Commended Team of the Year at the 2018/19 National GO Awards with a focus on the development of our category management approach.
