We’ve continued to support the Urgent and Emergency Care Network (UECN) to accelerate a range of innovations transforming access and delivery of UEC Services across the North East region. Innovations have included the self-care app for carers and parents of under-fives providing expert advice on common illnesses and where to seek treatment. The app has been shortlisted for a HSJ award and won the Chartered Institute of Marketing best use of insight as well as receiving numerous accolades from the Chartered Institute of Public Relations. To date, the app has received over 21,000 downloads and is supported by all NHS organisations across the North East and North Cumbria with the aim of encourage people to self-care instead of using services inappropriately. Independent evaluation of the app has shown 66% of users are frequently using the app for advice, proving the app is useful and is reducing pressure on local services. The app has received extra funding from NHS England to roll this out across NHS England North and work has begun on an adult self-care app.
