Sian Mcnulty, who works in our commissioning delivery team within NECS, tells us which charity she is running for in this year’s Great North Run and the personal reasons behind it.

“This is my fourth Great North Run and this year I am running on behalf of Neoangels. This is a charity which supports families of sick and premature babies on the Neonatal Units at the University Hospitals of North Tees and James Cook.

“Eighteen months ago, my best friend unexpectedly went into labour eight weeks early, giving birth to a beautiful, but tiny, baby boy, who needed to stay in the neonatal unit for three weeks. The staff provided round the clock care for both my friend and her little boy, making sure that each day, they were both getting strong enough to go home.

“I saw the emotional and physical toll that experience takes on families, but also the incredible difference that compassionate support can make.

“Noah is now a happy and cheeky toddler who brightens up my day!

“I would be so grateful if you would consider sponsoring me to run the Great North Run on behalf of Neoangels, my fundraising page is now up and running if you would like to make a donation to this amazing charity. The money raised will allow them to continue supporting families during some of the most difficult times in both theirs and their newborns’ lives.

“My NECS colleagues have been very supportive of my Great North Run training, donating and promoting my fundraising pages. Thank you to all of my colleagues, I appreciate all of your support.

“And thank you in advance to anyone who sponsors me, your donation will be gratefully received!”
