Nichol Quinn started his career with NECS on the NECS100 programme and is now a permanent member of our Communications and Engagement team.

“Before I joined the NECS100 programme, I studied Marketing and Management at Newcastle University for my degree. I saw the opportunity to apply for NECS100 in 2021 and thought it was a great way to get experience working in the healthcare sector and further develop my skills, by being able to work in several different teams in NECS.

“As part of my NECS100 role, I supported the Barts call centre project, where I worked with patients to book in appointments, on Capacity Tracker to assist and support care homes around the UK and in our HR team in an admin role. Finally, I was given a chance to support our Communications team to work on the internal and external communications for NECS.

“I supported with newsletters, social media and took a lead role in managing the 2022 annual NHS North East Carol Service, as well as one of the charity golf tournaments we hold as part of our CSR programme. All these roles have given me so much experience which I can take into my future roles.

“At the end of my NECS100 contract, I secured a permanent role in the NECS Communications team and now work with North East and North Cumbria ICB. I was really keen to stay with NECS so I was delighted as I felt I had already become part of the Communications team so to gain a permanent role gave me a real sense of accomplishment, belief in my abilities and optimism for my future career pathway.

“Recently, I have been working on healthcare campaigns including the Covid-19 booster programme. This is making me feel that I am contributing positively to the good work that NECS, NENC ICB and the wider NHS is doing

“I love the culture in NECS. I have always felt the support from my colleagues so I can progress and I am really happy in my working life.”
