Chris Sharpe
Finance Director
Chris is responsible for the financial strategy of NECS, which has led to an increase in organisational turnover of 50 per cent, geographical service expansion and the NECS International export offering.
To date, Chris’s senior finance experience in healthcare has been fundamental to the standardisation of contract management and business intelligence, supporting our customers to effectively manage their healthcare contracts. He has over 30 years of experience in the NHS, working in a variety of roles including Northallerton’s Friarage Hospital, City Hospitals Sunderland and Primary Care Trusts in Teesside.
In 2019 whilst at NECS, Chris took on the interim Executive Finance Director role at NEL CSU, helping to turn the organisation around and creating a stable financial platform to support its transition into NECS. He has also acted as Strategic Finance Lead in modelling hospital reconfigurations and other transformational projects, including Better Healthcare Programme in Tees, Durham, Darlington and North Yorkshire and the Ways to Wellness programme for Newcastle/ Gateshead CCG, where he worked with the voluntary sector, social investors (social impact bonds), Big Lottery Fund and the Cabinet Office on the implementation of the new service, including on developing an outcome payment mode.
He holds the prestigious Fellow status membership of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), which is awarded after five years of Continuous Professional Development (CPD) compliance and represents a member’s extensive experience and long-term commitment to professionalism and ethics.
Chris said: “The NHS has trained me, offered me a variety of different opportunities to develop my knowledge of the NHS and NHS finance and, when required, supported me through some challenging times. To be involved in the continued growth of NECS, witness the expansion of our geographical reach and see the impact that we make to patient care is so rewarding.”
In his spare time Chris enjoys the highs and lows of having three teenage daughters, exercising while listening to rave music, taking in a good film and socialising with a couple of beers.
