The challenge

Bury Hospice’s vision is to ensure all patients and families in the locality receive compassionate and outstanding palliative and end of life care. To realise this vision, the hospice developed a portfolio of transformation work and commissioned NECS Consultancy to support four key workstreams, including workforce development.

Our response

We supported workforce development by providing coaching programmes tailored to both individual clinicians / managers and a management group. Staff members development goals were met through a series of individual coaching sessions.

A coaching readiness survey was developed and utilised to identify whether the team (or individual) was in the right mindset for coaching. Amalgamated results were used to delve into team dynamics as part of the initial team coaching session.

The Disc Model (supporting team effectiveness) was also utilised to identify preferred roles within the team to gain a greater understanding of their dynamics and makeup. Amalgamated results were used as part of the final team coaching session to promote discussion and open conversations.

Outcomes

The result was that the management team developed a renewed focus and enhanced teamwork through effective group coaching sessions, producing tangible performance improvements.

“The hospice is a small charity and the involvement of NECS brought capacity and much needed expertise in order to support and enable staff. NECS consultancy in the time they were with us brought structure and importantly supported and enabled staff to deliver.”
