Chelsea Roughton, a Contract Manager at NECS, is running in this year’s AJ Bell Great North Run on behalf of Winston’s Wish.
Winston’s Wish helps children, teenagers and young adults up to the age of 25 find their feet when their worlds are turned upside down by grief. Winstons’s Wish was the charity chosen by 1,800 people working for NECS as our charity partner for 2023-24, ad we are proud to be helping this amazing charity.
Chelsea said: “I have started running from scratch, and am currently in week three of training. Most people who know me know I do not enjoy running and hills are my enemy! As the race is in September I have begun week three of NHS Couch to 5k, completing the three runs a week alongside a hour of netball and on my ‘rest days’ a long walk.
“Each week I am doing between 5-10kms in total with my pace slowly improving. It’s definitely a struggle to find time to run and keep up momentum as I have two small kids at home and a partner who works away in the military during the week.
“When I came across the post for the charity I did some research on Winston’s Wish. Their cause hit close to home having dealt with the bereavement of my father in 2015 when I was 22, then my mother 4 years later whilst pregnant, I just knew it was something I needed to support.”
We wish Chelsea lots of luck with her training and will be following her progress.
