NECS has held its first ever charity golf day in October to raise £1323 for FareShare North East, which aims to tackle food poverty by providing surplus food to local community groups in the region.

The event saw ten teams take on the full 18 holes at Woodham Golf and Country Club. Teams were comprised of NECS staff and partners, including Connect Health, Insight Health, On-Health, The Social Co, Hill Dickinson, and Wearside Audi.

Jake Hanmore, Chief Executive Officer at FareShare North East, said: “We are really happy that NECS put this Golf Charity Day on to raise funds for us, which will create opportunities to send more food out to good causes. We are grateful for all their support, and we are looking forward to working with them in the future.”

Funds raised on the Golf day were through player donations and entry fees and will provide invaluable support and resources for FareShare whose work reaches charities across the UK, including school breakfast clubs, elderly lunch clubs, homeless shelters, and community cafes.

Winners on the day were the Insight Health team who pipped the Hill Dickinson and Wearside Audi team to first place. Prizes included a BMW Z4 weekend car hire, a laptop, golf experiences and individual winners on the day were:

  • Michael Walton – winning a 4 ball at Beamish Park Golf Club
  • John Kirkpatrick – winning a golf simulator experience
  • Will Kelly – winning a 4 ball at Castle Eden Golf Club
  • Peter Saunders – winning a 4 ball at Castle Eden Golf Club
  • Sensil Nathan – winning the BMW Z4 car hire, sponsored by Vertu Motors
  • Andy Raey – winning a laptop, originally donated by Insight, which he donated to FareShare to support much needed resources.

Stephen Childs, Managing Director at NECS, said: “We are delighted to have raised over £1,300 for FareShare North East. Our colleagues organising the event felt that FareShare has a critically important role in tackling food poverty in vulnerable communities and, like NECS, has a strong regional footprint. This is a fantastic cause which fits with our corporate values.

“Given the success of our golf day we are keen to go further, build on the fantastic relationships we have with our partners and run another event next year – as well as seeking to work with other charities in the future.”
